National Heart Month

Our hearts can’t survive without love…
or a healthy life style!

February is American Heart Month, and the Mayo Clinic has some suggestions on how we can eat in a heart healthy manner.  Heart disease is the number one cause of death in both men and women in the United States.  The good news is, heart disease can be managed and often prevented when people learn to make healthy choices.  The Mayo Clinic website suggests eight steps to prevent heart disease:

1)  Control your portion size
2)  Eat more vegetables and fruits
3)  Select whole grains
4)  Limit unhealthy fats and cholesterol
5)  Choose low fat protein choices
6)  Reduce sodium in your foods
7)  Plan ahead: create healthy menus
8)  Allow yourself an occasional treat

“Incorporate these eight tips into your life, and you’ll continue to find that heart-healthy eating is both doable and enjoyable. With planning and a few simple substitutions, you can eat with your heart in mind.”

Remember Marisolio when it comes to “Limiting unhealthy fats and cholesterol” in your diet.  The number one choice of healthy fats suggested on the Mayo Clinic website is olive oil.  We are proud to offer the best quality olive oils at our shop.  We have over a dozen unflavored varietal oils that have been chemically analyzed and can provide you with detailed nutritional information determined by the most advanced testing methods available.
